When a company chooses an ERP system, they sometimes think that their current Payroll package can remain in situ and in many cases, there is no justifiable reason to change. In fact I used to be of the same opinion before I joined K3 and discovered the Equator product. (I have to admit I’d never heard of it before!)
You see Equator can just be a Payroll package or even a Payroll and Personnel package, if that’s all you require, but it can be so much more.
Typically the only integration between an ERP system and Payroll is to post Payroll journals and to be honest, even when it’s there a lot of accountants decide not to turn it on. (As an ex company accountant myself, I have to say I don’t understand why something that saves time isn’t utilized, but each to their own).
Of course Equator can post the Payroll journals, nothing unusual there, but where it really comes into its own is when the Equator Time & Attendance and Shop Floor Data Collection modules are also deployed as an integrated solution. The software is so flexible that companies in a variety of industries from Warehouse Packing to Aircraft Maintenance are utilizing it but its real sweet spot is in manufacturing and engineering where companies are able to capture all productive and non-productive time without the need for the manual entry of job transactions. What we find is that the Equator Shop Floor Data Capture functionality is in reality the main business process. The easy to configure tool box can allow the way in which the software is configured to be set exactly as required by the relevant business. Some customers estimate that they may have hundreds of thousands of bookings per year all taking place based upon a bar code being scanned -imagine trying to manage that volume of transactions on a manual basis.
Equator can be totally integrated to SYSPRO to automate all employee based transactions and when coupled with all of the other Equator functionality, including Access Control and the Employee Portal, gives a complete end to end system.
Definitely more than a Payroll and HR System.
